Welcome NYC SciComm’s Next President: Jaclyn Kubala

By Yue Liu, PhD

Dear all,

I am excited to announce the new President of NYC Science Communication (NYC SciComm), Jaclyn Kubala, a PhD candidate at Weill Cornell Medicine/Cornell University! Our Advisory Board has helped us select Jaclyn, and we are very impressed by her passion for leading our group and serving our members in the next 1~2 years.

It has been a great pleasure working with all volunteer leaders of NYC SciComm over the past year, as we are trying to grow from the group’s infancy to bring more valuable and practical resources to our members like you. I want to thank every one of you who have volunteered for and supported this student-led non-profit group that I founded as a digital project at the Graduate Center New Media Lab at CUNY, who will continue to provide technical support for our website.

I have strong confidence that our new President, Jaclyn, will serve our members with her full potential and great dedication to fulfilling our mission, and do the following:

  • To create more opportunities for our members to develop and hone leadership skills
  • To build writing and editing portfolio to define professional identity
  • To improve science communication skills
  • To build and expand professional networks by exchanging ideas and helping others

Remember that our technical skills provide a baseline for our career development, and it is the communication and leadership skill set that differentiates us. The more we progress, the more we will find it valuable. We aspire to help you grow no matter where you are and where you want to be.

At last, Jaclyn will be excited to hear from you if you have any suggestions or like to volunteer with her on board.

Please email us with your suggestions or volunteer interest at nycscicomm@gmail.com (Jaclyn will get back to you), or blog submissions at editor.nycscicomm@gmail.com (our Executive Editor, Tristan, will get back to you).
